Healing Sunday

On December 10, 2023, we are focusing our Sunday morning service on the ministry of healing. It will involve extended worship, a powerful healing sermon and a time to lay hands on the sick.

We are following the biblical pattern for healing ministry as recorded in the Gospels, the book of Acts and the epistle written by James.

James’s letter explains the powerful role the confession of sin can play in the healing experience, so our service will also present the opportunity to confess sin, which has been set up to be done discreetly and with relative privacy.

The writer of Hebrews tells us this:

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” Hebrews 11:6 (ESV)

Faith is vital to every aspect of our relationship with God, and this is no less true with respect to the healing of our bodies.

Jesus commented on the faith of many individuals He healed, noting their faith as having a direct impact on their experiences (see Matthew 9:22, 29; Mark 5:34; Mark 10:52; Luke 17:19; Luke 18:42-43.)

However, many people have difficulty cultivating faith or sometimes, instead of focusing on God, they look to other people they perceive to be more spiritual than them as sources of faith.

There is no doubt that other people can be sources of encouragement and wisdom in our faith journeys. In fact, God anoints men and women with spiritual gifts, which can become the means by which we receive healing and other blessings from God (I Corinthians 12:7-11).

However, we must stay focused on the fact that God Himself is our healer (Exodus 15:26) and receiving healing from Him requires faith.

So, how can we get more faith? Even the disciples asked of Jesus something similar, saying to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” (Luke 17:5 ESV). It follows in that passage that God only requires a small amount of faith, faith the size of a mustard seed (v.6) but, what if you believe you do not have even a little bit of faith? How can you have faith? Romans 10:17 (ESV) says, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ”. Faith comes from hearing and hearing and hearing and hearing Christ’s Word. Meditate on his Word day and night (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:2-3). Hear it. Read it. Say It. Believe it.

As an added blessing to your faith journey, we have invited Bishop Jarron O’Neal, Senior Pastor of The Fountain Church International, to be our guest speaker on December 10th. He will preach the Word and will also lay hands on the sick, along with Dr. Joshua Smith, Bishop Ed Smith, and our extended team of ministers.

To prepare for the service or if you do not know where to start growing your faith, Dr. Joshua has compiled a list of resources to help you. Not only have we made available all the sermons he has preached on healing this year, but we also offer links to other ministers preaching on the subject. These individuals have meditated on God’s Word and experienced real results in their healing. We pray this will encourage you, help you grow closer to God, and that you will receive the healing you need.

Dr. Joshua continues the series of rediscovering God as a healer of our bodies, “Jesus, My Healer”, vol 1, pt 2, revealing to us that Jesus was always a healer and provides biblical evidence of Jesus physically healing people. Dr. Joshua also provides different reasons as to why Jesus uses healing for validation as the Savior.

“Jesus, My Healer” Vol 1, Part 3

Dr. Joshua continues the series of rediscovering God as a healer of our bodies, “Jesus, My Healer”, Vol 1, Pt 3, by questioning what type of heart posture we have when we are listening to Jesus. Dr. Joshua reminds us that if our hearts are not right, we won’t be able to witness Jesus miraculously healing people.

“Jesus, My Healer” Vol 2, Part 1

Dr. Joshua Smith returns from sabbatical and continues the series, “Jesus, My Healer” – Vol 2, Pt 1, focusing on the back story of Jesus coming to earth to heal us physically and spiritually and exploring how being healed from sin and sickness is similar.

“Jesus, My Healer” Vol 2, Part 2

Dr. Joshua Smith continues the series, “Jesus, My Healer” – Volume 2, Part 2, discussing how merciful God is to His people, in the Old Testament, despite their evil nature. Dr. Joshua explains how the yearly sacrifices in the Old Testament were only a temporary solution. It was Jesus who stepped in and entirely cured us of sin, as well as, sickness.

“Jesus, My Healer” Vol 2, Part 3

Dr. Joshua Smith continues the series, “Jesus, My Healer” – Volume 2, Part 3, focusing on Satan’s tactics and how he operates. Dr. Joshua also explains why Job is not an excellent example of how we should interact with Satan today, why this is the case, and how we are causalities in a conflict between Jesus and Satan.

“Jesus, My Healer” Vol 2, Part 4

Dr. Joshua Smith continues the series, “Jesus, My Healer” – Volume 2, Part 4, highlighting two features of Jesus’s healing ministry that distinctly differed from how God’s people received healing under the old covenant.

“Jesus, My Healer” Series

“Jesus, My Healer” Vol 3, Part 1

Dr. Joshua Smith continues the series, “Jesus, My Healer” – Volume 3, Part 1, diving into the tale of a man Jesus found by the pool of Bethesda. He drives home the point that sin has the potential to cause terrible things to occur in our lives, including sickness. Dr. Joshua stresses that not all sickness is caused by sin. However, if there is sin in our lives and Jesus heals us, we must be careful to turn away from sin so nothing worse will happen.

“Jesus, My Healer” Vol 3, Part 2

In this volume 3, part 2 of “Jesus, My Healer”, Dr. Joshua breaks down and compares both events of the man by the pool and the man on the roof to help illustrate how we approach Jesus as our healer. Dr. Joshua also encourages us not to wait for God to draw near to us, but instead, we should be the ones to draw near to Him first, seeking him wholeheartedly.

“Jesus, My Healer” Vol 3, Part 3

Dr. Joshua Smith continues the series, “Jesus, My Healer” – Volume 3, Part 3, shifting our perspective of how we view God’s desire to heal our lives. In order to draw close to God, we should naturally draw away from sin and trust that God can also help us overcome our sinful nature.

“Jesus, My Healer” Vol 3, Part 4

Dr. Joshua Smith continues the series, “Jesus, My Healer” – Volume 3, Part 4, briefly discussing Israel and Bible prophecy. Dr. Joshua also talks about why sexual immorality is a different sin compared to other sins.

“Jesus, My Healer” Vol 3, Part 5

Dr. Joshua Smith continues the series, “Jesus, My Healer” – Volume 3, Part 5, which addresses the gravity of sexual sin. Dr. Joshua explains how the perpetual practice of sin is a sign that you are unhealthy and it has the potential to lead to physical illness.
